Disaster Recovery

We deliver expertise, compassion, and commitment to community recovery after disasters.

Founded in California, our company has firsthand experience with the devastation caused by natural disasters like wildfires and major floods events. Nationally, we’ve seen the impacts that damage to critical infrastructure can have on surrounding communities and the environment. Our emergency response and recovery work is driven by the commitment of our entire team not only to leave a positive generational impact, but to improve the lives of all people contending with the aftermath of disasters today.

When families lose everything in a wildfire, we provide a clean foundation to rebuild. When our waterways and wildlife are affected by an unexpected breach of environmental contaminants, we deploy remedial measures as soon as possible. And when critical infrastructure like dams and levees unexpectedly fail, we jump into immediate action to deliver the safest, most permanent solution to protect the people, communities, and businesses affected.

The passion of our personnel, power of our owned fleet of equipment, and ability to rapidly deploy resources safely made this line of work an obvious fit for us. After years of safely executing major disaster response and recovery projects, we understand the management skills, resource allocations, cultural, and environmental protection measures required to deliver a positively impact in support of these efforts

In addition to our own experience, Forgen and our sister entities have over three decades’ experience responding to over $2.6 billion in emergency response events throughout the US. We have experienced and knowledgeable staff spanning the full range of response needs for wildfires, hurricanes, dam ruptures, and human-made events (e.g., oil spills). Together, our family of companies brings experience performing 500+ disaster response debris removal projects and hold a number of national, state, and local contracts for rapid disaster response efforts. Our sister firms offer complementary disaster recovery services including debris management oversight, emergency response planning and preparation consultation, emergency sheltering and housing, Short-term Emergency Repair (STEP), emergency power, utility restoration, and healthcare services.

We’ve contracted with government agencies to deliver the critical first steps toward rebuilding after some of the country’s most devastating wildfires. Our team is capable of rapidly staffing, deploying, and managing crews to perform site and hazard tree assessments, hazard tree and debris removal, and debris recyclable material transportation and recycling. We do so safely, efficiently, and respectfully, so home and business owners can move forward.

In 2020, our team responded to the record-setting 2020 California wildfire season when we managed the clearing of 627 parcels and nearly 12,000 hazardous trees in the southern half of the State. In 2022, we helped families in Boulder County, Colorado recover from the Marshall Fire, the most destructive fire in the state’s history. And most recently, in 2023, we deployed resources to Hawaii when a wind-driven wildfire damaged and destroyed more than 2,000 properties in the communities of Lahaina, Olinda, and Kula on the Island of Maui.  In just 90 days, working alongside our local and national partners, we completed initial hazardous site assessments for nearly 1,6000 commercial and residential properties. This experience makes us well-versed in the sensitivities, environmental hazards, and safety hazards surrounding wildfire debris removal.

Featured Project Experience

Damage to infrastructure is not uncommon after a disaster. Additionally, aging or neglected infrastructure can fail or weaken with little to no warning, resulting in the immediate need for emergency repairs.

Whether due to a natural disaster or simply an unexpected event, we can apply our civil and geotechnical construction services to repair critical infrastructure, restoring safety and functionality. While best known for our work performing emergency levee and erosion repairs, our experience also expands to include dam breaches and landslides.

Notably, we were part of the team which responded to the Oroville Dam Emergency, when significant snow melts and warm rain posed a threat of catastrophic flooding that eventually resulted in the Governor declaring a State of Emergency in California. Together with our partners, we performed around the clock emergency services to repair the emergency spillway and remove debris from the diversion pool, preventing potential catastrophic impacts to downstream communities.

Featured Project Experience

We manage channel and reservoir sedimentation following natural disasters.    Our mechanical dredging services include removing both contaminated sediments, which require treatment and disposal, and non-contaminated sediment, vegetation, rock, and debris from reservoirs and channels.  In addition to repairs, our teams have engaged in early contractor involvement (ECI) and providing design-assist on reservoir sedimentation projects where critical dam infrastructure was threatened by build-up of vegetation and soils washed out from storms following wildfire events.

Following the Oroville Dam Emergency, we removed rock and debris from diversion pools, preventing potential catastrophic impacts to downstream communities.   In this case, we employed our fleet of long-reach excavators to remove problematic sediment from the shore or operating from barges in the channel.

Featured Project Experience

Our diverse capabilities across the environmental, civil, and geotechnical space allow us to quickly respond to existing or emerging disasters which pose a threat to the community or environment. As experts in remediation with experience working at a variety of HAZWOPER sites, we act quickly to develop timely and sustainable solutions to environmental emergencies. When possible, we partner with clients to get in front of environmental disasters by remediating contaminated sites, removing sediments, or providing hydraulic containment to protect groundwater.

Regardless of the situation, we use our broad experience and ability to rapidly deploy resources and solve complex challenges to deliver lasting, immediate solutions to high-profile, high-pressure disaster situations.
