Committed to environmental excellence —we provide turnkey solutions for legacy site remediation.
Our dedicated employees understand and respect the intricacies of environmental work and are passionate about cleaning up the environment for the betterment of people and communities.
Our teams skillfully manage projects ranging from remote legacy sites in ecologically sensitive areas to highly visible urban locations and active facilities. We provide turnkey remediation solutions that meet client and regulatory requirements.
Our expertise in specialty services such as slurry trenching and soil mixing is complemented by our experience in additional scope elements like excavation, removal, capping, disposal, structural and subsurface demolition, decommissioning, dewatering, water treatment, and more.
We excel in significant earth-moving activities involved in remediation projects. This includes tailings pile regrading and relocation, post-disaster debris removal and site remediation, site cleanup, landfill capping and cell construction, and environmental and stream restoration. Our commitment to environmental care drives us to deliver effective solutions for a cleaner, healthier planet.
Superfund Site Remediation
We work on federally managed and funded programs to clean up the country’s most polluted sites, reducing the risk of exposure to surrounding communities and ecosystems. For federal projects, Forgen is a designated large business under NAICS code 562910 and regularly works with small businesses, as well as large businesses, in strategic partnerships for the remediation of superfund sites. Forgen is part of the team that holds the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Remedial Action Framework (RAF) Remediation Environmental Services (RES) contract for regions 4-7.
Our capabilities in Superfund site remediation include cleaning up abandoned mines, industrial manufacturing plants such as wood treatment facilities, landfills, former military installations, shipyards, and more. The level of cleanup and approach depends on the site’s intended use, and Forgen offers a range of services and technical expertise to assist in identifying a solution that meets project needs. We have expertise in a wide range of solutions from traditional hazardous material excavation and removal, in situ and ex situ stabilization of contaminated soil, subsurface barrier walls, and the construction of caps or covers. We also have experience in sediment remediation using mechanical dredging and the construction of permeable reactive barriers for passive treatment options.

Industrial Site Remediation
Decades of heavy industry near urban areas often leave behind contaminated soil and groundwater. We and our partners are dedicated to cleaning up sites with heavy metals, petroleum products, industrial solvents, PCBs, and many other man-made chemicals. By remediating these sites, especially near growing urban centers, we reduce exposure to harmful contaminants to the surrounding soil, air, and water, and create new opportunities for residential and commercial development.
Our experience on industrial remediation projects includes chemical, pulp and paper, manufactured gas plant (MGP), coal-fired power plants, oil refineries, petroleum and bulk storage terminals, automotive, pharmaceutical, railyards, and more. The level of cleanup and approach depends on the site’s intended use, and Forgen offers a range of services and technical expertise to assist in identifying a solution that meets project needs. We have expertise in a wide range of solutions from traditional excavation and removal, in situ and ex situ stabilization of contaminated soil, subsurface barrier walls, and the construction of caps or covers. We also have experience in sediment remediation using mechanical dredging and the construction of permeable reactive barriers for passive treatment options.

Manufactured Gas Plant (MGP) Remediation
During the nineteenth century, urban areas demanded more gas to light streets, homes, and for use in cooking and heating. Before natural gas was readily available, local gas manufacturing plants supplied most of these resources, lighting streets and homes directly and powering the first electrical plants.
These plants, built before high-tension wires, left a legacy in many urban areas. The gas manufacturing process produced volatile sites due to the carbonization of coal, resulting in coke deposits often buried onsite. This contamination impacted local neighborhoods and groundwater for decades until cleaned up.
The cleanup process involves reducing air, dust, and noise pollution as volatile compounds are excavated or remediated in-situ. Given their location in dense urban areas, we carefully plan to minimize the impact of vibrations, noise, and traffic. Often, we conduct site work under protective cover, using extensive air and water filtration systems to contain airborne and waterborne compounds.
Forgen has worked on several MGP site remediation projects in urban settings and has ample experience in the noise, odor, and vibration controls required. Our teams have worked in fully enclosed tent structures and have expertise using a wide range of solutions from traditional excavation and disposal, in situ and ex situ stabilization of contaminated soil, capping, mechanical dredging, and the construction of subsurface barrier walls, including permeable reactive barriers (PRBs).

Brownfield Remediation and Redevelopment
At Forgen, we specialize in brownfield remediation and redevelopment, a process typically driven by private investment to transform polluted sites.
Regardless of the method used, our projects often pave the way for future commercial or residential development, frequently acting as the economic catalyst that revitalizes previously blighted areas.
Featured Project Experience
Waste Repository Construction
We have extensive experience constructing and closing landfills and corrective action management units (CAMUs) for municipal solid waste and hazardous materials. We also build and maintain confined disposal facilities (CDFs) for dredged sediment.
Our services include excavating, grading, filling, and consolidating materials on-site. We construct engineered embankments, caps and covers (including evapotranspirative, or ET, covers), and subsurface hydraulic barriers for groundwater control. Additionally, we handle new cell construction, perimeter roads, reinforced slopes, retaining walls, and drainage support.
By self-performing these tasks, we ensure the efficient and effective establishment, maintenance, and closure of waste repositories.
