Position Summary
The Pile Driving Crane Operator is responsible for safely operating heavy equipment, primarily cranes, to drive and install driven pipe piles on Deep Foundations projects. This role requires extensive experience in crane operations and pile driving, ensuring precision and safety in all activities. The operator works closely with project teams to meet project schedules and quality standards while adhering to Forgen’s core values and safety protocols.

At Forgen, we deploy a wide range of deep foundation techniques, including driven piles of all types, drilled shafts, auger-cast/displacement piles, micro piles, secant/tangent piles, helical piles, stone columns, deep soil mixing and dynamic compaction. As a prime contractor or subcontractor, we offer customized solutions for material supply, installation, or full turnkey services, delivering high-quality results for ground improvement, excavation support, and complex foundation systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate cranes equipped with pile driving leads and hammers to install driven pipe piles, including both vertical and battered piles.
- Perform pre-operational inspections and basic maintenance to ensure the crane is in proper working condition.
- Collaborate with site supervisors, engineers, and crew to execute pile driving plans accurately.
- Monitor site conditions and adjust operations as needed for safety and performance.
- Responsible for driving a safety culture which promotes Incident and Injury Free Performance.
- Perform additional assignments and special projects as directed.
Basic Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience operating cranes for pile driving and deep foundation installation.
- NCCCO (National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators) certification or equivalent.
- Proficiency in operating lattice boom, hydraulic, and crawler cranes.
- TWIC Card
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with various deep foundation techniques, such as driven piles, H-piles, sheet piles, drilled shafts, and auger-cast piles.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, site plans, and project specifications.
- Strong knowledge of crane load charts and rigging practices.
- The following safety training is preferred, but not mandatory. Company will provide additional training, as necessary.
- 40 Hour HAZWOPER training.
- Competent Person Safety Training
- 8-Hour Supervisory Training
- 30-Hour OSHA Construction Safety Training
- First Aid and CPR
Physical Demands & Work Environment
This role requires lifting up to 50 pounds, extended standing or walking on project sites, climbing in and out of equipment, and working in confined spaces or at heights. Work conditions and demands may vary, with possible exposure to heavy machinery, chemicals, dust, fumes, noise, and extreme weather. Proper PPE, including protective eyewear, gloves, a hard hat, and steel-toed boots, is required. Effective communication, tool use, and adherence to safety protocols are essential.
