Position Summary

The successful candidate’s core responsibilities will include, but not limited to, oversight of the monthly financial closing process to ensure financial statements and financial transactions are in accordance with US GAAP, overseeing accounting department functions, analyzing financial data, managing financial reporting, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supervising accounting staff, with responsibilities including budget preparation, financial analysis, internal controls, and auditing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the monthly financial close process.
  • Ensure all balance sheet accounts are reconciled monthly, including all bank reconciliations.
  • Reconciliation of subsidiary ledgers to the GL (AR, AP, Job Cost, Fixed Assets).
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
  • Support the monthly project financial forecast call and reconciliation of the project forecast to the WIP booking position.
  • Ensure compliance with US GAAP, tax laws and other relevant regulations.
  • Lead, train, and develop accounting teams of accountants, ensuring tasks are completed accurately and efficiently.
  • Implement and strengthen internal controls to mitigate financial risks and maintain accurate records.
  • Facilitate external audits and tax return preparation to ensure the company’s adherence to accounting and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage accounts receivable, including preparation and distribution of weekly reports and KPI’s and actively managing adherence to progress billing deadlines and collection efforts.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve discrepancies with accounts payable.
  • Assist with annual 1099 reporting.
  • Oversee preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual sales & use tax returns in the US and monthly tax reporting in Canada.
  • Improve and implement accounting processes and procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Report and analyze budget to actual comparisons of all departments / cost centers monthly.

Basic Qualifications

  • BS in Business Administration (in related field) or equivalent with 5 or more years of accounting experience with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Management and supervision of accounting staff.
  • Managing the monthly financial close process.
  • Knowledge of Construction Job Cost and Percentage of Completion Accounting.
  • Understanding of Job progress billing and retainage.
  • Reconciliation of GL accounts.
  • Knowledge of internal controls.
  • Involvement in annual external audits.
  • Analysis of financial data.
  • Proficiency with integrated ERP and Accounting Software.
  • Proven strong skills in organizing, prioritizing tasks and managing time across multiple tasks and customer needs.
  • Highly motivated, problem-solving, multi-tasking individual who works well in a fast-paced dynamic environment is essential.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, and consulting-type skills.
  • Proficiency in all MS office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook). Must be strong in advanced Excel, including pivot tables, advanced formulas and data formatting & presentation.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

This office-based role requires frequent computer use and effective communication, with occasional travel to project sites as needed. Site visits may involve extended periods of standing or walking and required PPE, with potential exposure to heavy equipment, chemicals, dust, fumes, uneven terrain, and extreme weather.

Pay Range
$115,000$125,000 USD
