Slurry Wall Construction at Active Mining Site
Challenge
Our mining client required a groundwater management solution at their active mining site within the Fort Lupton facility. The primary objectives were to reduce de-watering efforts during active mining operations and to prepare the pit for its future use as a water storage reservoir once aggregate extraction was complete. The project involved constructing a soil-bentonite groundwater cutoff wall to meet the stringent gravel pit lining criteria established by the State of Colorado Engineers Office. Additionally, the project needed to be completed within a tight timeline, ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing mining activities while adhering to safety and quality standards.
Solution
Forgen developed and executed a comprehensive project plan that included:
Results
The slurry wall wall exhibited a hydraulic conductivity of 1 x 10⁻⁷ cm/sec, demonstrating the effectiveness of our construction approach.
The project was completed on time, meeting the client’s mining schedule and all regulatory requirements. Our client expressed satisfaction with the quality of the delivered product, noting the project’s success in achieving both groundwater management and site restoration goals.
The project showcased our reputation for delivering safe, high-quality work in the Colorado slurry wall market, further solidifying its position as a trusted partner for complex geotechnical and heavy civil construction projects.
