The Outstanding Flood Management Project Of The Year Award is presented yearly to a project that excels in flood management and protection, showcasing advances and innovation in managing flood plains, addressing historical flood issues, emergency flood repairs, and related improvements. Project benefits extend to the environment, downstream lands, and communities.
The Lower American River Site 2-1 project, managed by the United States Army Corps of Engineers’ Sacramento District, encompassed the following:
- Construction of 5,500 feet of bank protection along the Lower American river.
- Creation and installation of launchable rock/rock toe protection.
- Construction of planting benches and soil-filled rock slope protection.
- Anchoring walnut trees along the bank, providing a safe habitat for species critical to the local ecosystem.
The Sacramento Section Outstanding Project Awards are presented by the Sacramento Section of ASCE to projects that demonstrate the greatest engineering skills and represent the greatest contribution to civil engineering progress and to society. Each year, project teams from across the region compete for awards in 20 different categories.
The project will be recognized at the ASCE Project Awards & Individual Awards Banquet on November 4, 2023 in Sacramento.
